　　乔治（罗萨诺·布拉兹 Rossano Brazzi 饰）深深的倾慕着安妮塔，却由于自己拮据的经济状态而挑选将这份倾慕深深的藏在心底。玛利亚一心想要高攀有钱的迪诺公爵（路易斯·乔丹 Louis Jourdan 饰），可是虽然她化尽血汗，可毫无效果。弗兰西斯给著名作家山德威尔（克利夫顿·韦伯 Clifton Webb 饰）做了十五年的秘书，任谁都能看出她的心机，可是，当山德威尔终究决议采取她时，却发现自己得了了绝症。
